A year before, the SD Association introduces the SDXC specification. A year later while SDXC is not widely available, the organization is planning the next generation SD Specification (Version 4.0).
The next-gen SD will promises up to 300MB/s transfer speed, up from 104MB/s of SDXC, using Serial data transfer scheme. The card will have more than 9 pins and supports encryption technology with at least a 128-bit key. The eXFAT file system is supported.
The new specification is still in development stage and one of the main issues is the backward compability as the new cards will have more pins and using different transfer scheme. So let’s wait and see.
