Recently, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has upgraded the Jaguar Cray XT5 supercomputer from quad-core to six-core AMD Opteron processors, delivering 2.3 petaflop/s theoretical peak performance and 1.75 petaflop/s performance on the Linpack benchmark.
The six-core Jaguar Cray XT5 is the most powerful supercomputer in the world according to the TOP500 Organization, which has just released its bi-annual list of the highest performing systems in the world. Four of the Top 5 supercomputer systems are powered by AMD’s processor, including another Cray XT5 system called Kraken.
