Toshiba announced the Dynario (PF60A000001), its first Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC) product that serves as an external power source for mobile digital devices. The unit runs on mix of methanol and ambient oxygen, and the chemical reaction between the two in the fuel cell produces electricity.
Once the palm-sized Dynario is fueled with an injection of methanol solution from dedicated cartridge, the device starts to generate electricity that is delivered to a digital consumer products via USB cable. On a single refill of methanol which can be made in an instant period (around 20 seconds), Dynario can generate enough power to charge two typical mobile phones.
Toshiba Dynario (PF60A000001) will be available on 29 October 2009 for 29,800 Yen and the Fuel Cartidge (MC050A00001) costs 3150 Yen for a set of five.
