Hitachi Global Storage Technologies announced the new Ultrastar 15K600 and Ultrastar C15K147 enterprise-class hard drives. Both models feature 15,000RPM spin speed and a record reliability of 1.6 million hours mean time between failures (MTBF).
The Ultrastar 15K600 has a 3.5-inch form factor and use 6Gb/s SAS or 4Gb/s FCAL interface. It has 64MB buffer cache. The drive is 23% faster than its predecessor. The Ultrastar 15K600 line is available in 300GB, 450GB and 600GB capacities.
Hitachi’s Ultrastar C15K147, on the other hand, is a 2.5-inch hard drive that delivers 70 percent more space efficiency compared to standard 3.5-inch enterprise hard drives. It an 11 percent higher sequential performance, and a 23 percent faster seek time when compared to its 10,000 RPM cousin, C10K300, while it consumes 50% less power than similar 3.5-inch drives. The C15K147 is available in 73GB and 147GB capacities.
These UltraStar enterprise hard drives come with full disk encryption that enable system builders and OEM partners to help protect their customers’ data and they are conformed to the Trusted Computing Group’s Enterprise A Security Subsystem Class specification for ease of integration and implementation.
