Freecom, a Mitsubishi Kagaku Media company, announced the Freecom, Hard Drive XS 3.0, which is the world’s first USB 3.0 external hard drive. Utilizing the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 technology, the XS 3.0 offers up to 130MB/s transfer rate. (USB 3.0 theoretically offers transfer speeds of up to 500 MB/s.)

Freecom’s XS 3.0 is available in 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB storage capacity. The hard drive is backwards-compatible and will work with all USB 2.0 enabled computers and notebooks. The 1TB model starts at Euro 119.
