HP launches the MediaSmart EX490 and EX495 Windows home servers, both works with Windows PCs and Macs. Other than storage, these MediaSmart servers can stream music and photos to any internet-connected computers, as well as iPhone and iPod touch using the MediaSmart Server iPhone app.
The MediaSmart EX490 is powered by an Intel Celeron 2.2GHz processor with 2GB RAM while the EX495 gets Pentium dual core 2.5GHz and 2GB memory. They both offer four drive bays and come pre-installed with a 1TB and 1.5TB 7200RPM SATA hard drive respectively.
HP’s MediaSmart home servers are able to do automatic backup for Windows PCs and Macs via Apple Time Machine. They runs Windows Home Server and offer the HP Video Converter for creating mobile version of videos for iPod, iPhone, PSP, Zune and other mobile devices. They have 4 USB ports and an eSATA port. The 1TB EX490 and 1.5TB EX495 are priced at $549 and $699 respectively.
