Hitachi announced two new CinemaStar 3.5-inch hard drives, the 1TB 7K1000.C and the 1TB 5K1000 , both based on 500GB per-platter technology and offer 7200RPM and 5400RPM spin speed respectively.
Hitachi’s new CinemaStar drives are built to handle HD video streams. They offer quiet operation, advanced AV features, and low power and temperatures making them the perfect drives for HD DVRs, DVD/HDD recorders, DVR-enabled TV devices. With up to 1TB capacity, these new drives can store up to 250 hours of MPEG-4 HD video.
The CinemaStar 5K1000 features Hitachi’s CoolSpin technology that relies on motor speed optimization to provide a unique balance of performance, power utilization and acoustics. It is almost silent at 2.4 bels during operation, draws 3.3 watts or less idle power and generates less heat. They are equipped with the Thermal fly-height control for enhanced drive reliability during lengthy video encoding/decoding sessions; especially relevant today when HD movies can reach more than three hours in length.
Available in capacities ranging from 160GB to 1TB, the CinemaStar 7K1000.C and 5K1000 will be released in Q4 2009.
