A week ago, Toshiba brings the MK6465GSX 2.5-inch 640GB hard drive, now Samsung follows by announcing the 640GB version of its Spinpoint M7 2.5-inch hard drive family. The 640GB M7 has two 320GB platters that have an areal density of 516-Gigabit per square inch, which is a 28% increase over the 500GB M7.
Samsung’s new Spinpoint M7 model is designed for high-end mobile computing applications requiring greater shock resistance without a compromise in performance. It has a shock resistance level of 400G (2ms) in operation mode and 900G (1ms) when the power is off. The M7 also utilizes the SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technologies to minimize noise-levels during drive operation.
Like other Spinpoint M7 models, the 640GB M7 has a 5400RPM spin speed, 8MB cache and 3.0Gbps SATA interface. It will be released in mid-September for $149.
