Olympus officially announced the E-P1 PEN Digital, a new Micro Four Thirds compact DSLR camera. The E-P1 is known as the PEN Digital so as to uphold the legacy of the celebrated PEN family of cameras.

Olympus’ E-P1 features 12.3 Megapixel Live MOS image sensor, TruePic V Image Processor, 100-6400 ISO sensitivity and a 3-inch LCD screen. It can record 1280×720 HD video at 30fps in AVI Motion JPEG format.

The E-P1 has Live View Autofocus system, In-body Image Stabilization system, Multiple Exposure function, 19 automatic scene modes, Intelligent Auto Mode (iAuto), and Face Detection function. You can also find six built-in Art Filters and Shadow Adjustment technology.

Unlike the Sigma DP2 that does not allow you to change the lens, Olympus E-P1 PEN Digital has a Micro Four Thirds Mount and offers Supersonic Wave Filter for removing dust and other particles from the image sensor. The body-only price of the E-P1 PEN Digital is $749. The kit price is $799 with a 14-42mm lens and $899 with a 17mm pancake lens and a viewfinder.
