World’s First Terabyte Hard Drive from Hitachi

Hitachi has announced the world’s first Terabyte(TB) hard drive, the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000. The Deskstar 7K1000 has a capacity of 1TB. The Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 wil be available to consumer in the first quarter this year with a suggested retail price of $399 (USD). The Deskstat 7K1000 connects through the SATA 3.0Gb/s and PATA-133 interfaces.

Other than the Deskstar 7K1000, Hitachi shows us also the CinemaStar 7K1000 which is also a hard drive with 1TB of capacity. It has “optimized capabilities specifically designed for digital video recording (DVR) applications.” It will features:
* Adaptive error recovery and SMART command transport for optimized video streaming and picture quality
* Smooth Stream Technology to optimize the drive for audio/video applications requiring reliable storage
* “Bedroom quiet” acoustics

The Hitachi CinemaStar 7K1000 hard drive will be available in the second quarter.
