Caterpillar, the brand you will see on construction and mining equipment, and agricultural tractors, is also at the Mobile Worlds Congress to present its CAT B15 rugged smartphone. The IP67-rated phone is waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes and dustproof. With an aluminum body in a rubberized casing, the B15 is able to handle 1.8 meters head-first drop onto concrete. It is able to operate in -20ºC to +50ºC temperature range and its screen is protected by scratch-proof Corning Gorilla Glass.
The Android-based Caterpillar smartphone features a 4-inch 800×480 touchscreen display with wet finger tracking, and a 5 Megapixel main camera with video recording and one-press continuous shooting. It also gets a VGA front camera for video chat. The handset is boosted by a MediaTek MT6577 dual-core 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS are included and it also packs FM radio. The B15 has 4GB onboard storage and supports microSD cards up to 32GB.
The CAT B15 is expected to provide up to 16.3 hours of talk time and 20 days of standby. It runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Coming in March, the phone will be priced at GBP 299 and Euro 329.
