AMD announced the next generation gaming GPU ,the Radeon HD6800 series designed to be “perfect graphics cards” for gamers. The new HD6800 series features AMD’s second-generation Microsoft DirectX® 11-capable architecture, AMD Eyefinity technology that makes multi-display easy, AMD HD3D technology for 3D entertainment, AMD Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP) technology, Unified Video Decoder 3 (UVD) dedicated video playback accelerator and support for DirectCompute and OpenCL.
The HD6800 series includes two models, the HD6850 and the HD6870. The fomer has a 900MHz engine clock speed, 1050MHz memory clock, 134.4 Gbps memory bandwidth, and 2 TFLOPs compute power. It has 1120 Stream Processors and 56 Texture Units in the TeraScale 2 Unified Processing Architecture. The HD6850 offers less, offering 755MHz engine clock, 1000MHz memory clock, 128 Gbps memory bandwidth and 1.5 TFLOPS compute power. There are 960 Stream Processors and 48 Texture Units. Both of them have 1GB GDDR5 memory and offer DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4a outputs.
The Radeon HD6800 Series uses PCI Express 2.1 x15 bus interface and takes two slots. The HD6850 starts at $179 while the HD6870 at $239.
